The Banned Books Project is a student-led initiative working to increase awareness of challenged and banned books in libraries across San Mateo and the Bay Area through programming, displays, presentations, and public educational resources.
Books are often challenged for many reasons, including language, violence, sexual content, political themes, or questions about age-appropriateness. This project responds by promoting Banned Books Week, encouraging libraries to install thoughtful banned books displays, and offering presentations for libraries that want to learn more.
